Largest green roof to cover a sporting venue – 135,000 sedum roof installation
Silktown Roofing, Inc. was the roofing contractor who had the honor of installing the 135,000 green roof at the Barclays Center. This is the largest-ever green roof to cover a sporting venue.
The project consisted of 34,000 trays of sedum which were shipped by rail to a Connecticut nursery, plated and brought to Barclays to be hoisted by a crane for installation.
The design was created not only to absorb rainwater and reduce strain on the sewer system but it also provides an acoustical benefit by acting as a noise muffling component for the events that are hosted within the center.
